Hypewriter: The Band In Heaven

Hypewriter aims to bring you the bands destined for greater things at a time when you can go see them in small venues without paying astronomical ticket prices, allowing you to enjoy and appreciate the music these great bands are making.

So I got a heads up about these guys from none other than their singer Ates Isildak (kick-ass name), who modestly suggested I may like their music, LIKE is an understatement. These guys seem to have produced some brilliantly original tracks that have had me drooling like a rhythmical baby over their EP for the past week. Seriously guys, bands like this don't come along very often. Read More about The Band In Heaven after the beep, you can also download their EP for free.

Stranded - The Walkmen

Okay so as I was away this weekend I missed NPR dropping the new track from The Walkmen, who just so happen to be one of my favourite bands of the past decade. So as you can imagine i was gutted i didn't get there first, but better late then never.

So I guess after a couple of experiments these guys are back to their best with this sorrowful melody driven by brass and the soulful lyrics. Listen to 'Stranded' after the beep.

All Summer - Kid Cudi, Best Coast, Rostam (Vampire Weekend)

As far as I can see this is Converse's second installation in an exhibition of great songs spawned from unlikely collaborations. The first was of course "My Drive Thru" feat. Julian Casablancas, Pharrell and Santigold. The second is "All Summer" and it features Kid Cudi, Bethany Consentino of Best Coast fame, and the instrumental and probable songwriting skills of Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend. It came just a week to late for the summer playlist but that doesn't mean you lot can't just add it in there ey does it? Listen and Download "All Summer" after the beep.

Alejandro's Not A Robot - Marina And The Diamonds x Lady Gaga

This is probably the best mash-up I have heard this year, the two songs were clearly written for each other and the genius that is TikToxic aka Asad Naseem (youtube channel here) spotted this. Watch and Listen to 'Alejandro's Not A Robot' after the beep.

Summer Playlist 2010

So I finally finished compiling my Summer Playlist and here it is. The playlist is made up of 19 tracks, all free to download and all oozing with summery-ness. It's got tracks from Tokyo Police Club, Blur, The New Pornographers, Chiddy Bang, Lissie, an exclusive track from Polarsets and mooooorrrrrreeeeeeeee. Download the playlist after the beep.

Video: Oh No! - Marina And The Diamonds

There is no doubt that Marina has made a name for herself this past year, her album is up there with the best of this year and her video's show how creative she is in all aspects of her work. Read more and watch the video for 'Oh No!' after the beep.

Stream: Crossfire - Brandon Flowers

It's always interesting to see how a member of a band does when releasing solo material. So often it doesn't compare to the music made by the artists former band, however in this case it does. It also sounds suspiciously like a Killers song. Read more and listen to 'Crossfire' after the beep.

Review: New Single 'The Sea'/'Warden Rock' from Ever Since The Lake Caught Fire

I featured ESTLCF on my Newcastle Music Scene: May post as my local band of the month. Since then the band have released their single 'The Sea/Warden Rock', both tracks are a great showcase of the bands talent. Read Transatlanticism's review after the beep.

MP3: Goodbye Girl - The Shins

So of course when I first saw this over at stereogum, I got very excited, The Shins are making new music? Well unfortunately, no. well not yet. They are however doing a pretty damn good cover of Squeeze's goodbye girl. Read more and download after the beep.

MP3: Goal! England - We Are Scientists

Okay so this is probably the coolest thing to happen to football since Titus Bramble, yes that's right We Are Scientists have written a World Cup song. And its for England (really...i would never have guessed from the title). Not only is it cheesy enough to delight any football fan, its also a pretty good song. But why didn't they write one for the U.S.A i here you say, well here is Chris Cairns explanation; "When you want to give your girlfriend a great gift, you give her something you know she wants, not something you want. We've never been huge football guys, but we're pretty big England guys, and we know her well enough to know she loves her a football anthem. So we made her one." So there you have it, screw James Corden and Dizzee's limp attempt you have found your world cup anthem. Listen to and Download 'Goal! England' after the beep.

MP3: Post Acid - WAVVES

So this is why I have postponed my summer playlist for a few days, it gives me a chance to pick up on these great songs that are just starting to show their summery faces. This little number from WAVVES is all over the place at the moment and quite rightly so. It has that upbeat tempo which leaves you wanting to do something summery like having a spontaneous water fight or getting sunburnt (a British classic). Listen to and download 'Post Acid' after the beep.

MP3: Monarchy remix Kelis and Lady Gaga

Another successful Neon Gold love child, Monarchy are rapidly gaining ground in both the indie-electro and remix circuits. They have some pretty unique talent if you ask me, talent which is epitomized in these two stunning remixes. Listen to and download Monarchy's remixes of Kelis and Lady Gaga after the beep.

Stream: Twilight Eclipse Soundtrack

So say what you like about the films (they are a bit crap) but what is clear is that this lot don't half put together a good soundtrack. With each movie they seem to have got better and better. 'Eclipse' sees new tracks from Muse, Metric, The Bravery, Florence and the Machine, Sia, Fanfarlo, The Black Keys, The Dead Weather, Beck and Bat For Lashes (Together!) I could go on and on. Anyway the track-list and my pick of the songs are after the beep. You can stream the whole album here.

Video: Your Direction - Chief

Probably one of the best melodies written this year. Chief combine swaying guitar with harmonic lyrics to create one of the best songs you will here this summer. Read more about the video and listen after the beep.

Preview Tracks: 'The Suburbs' + 'Month Of May' - Arcade Fire

I am taking a short break and will be back on Tuesday due to pursuing my back up to music blogging. My degree. I leave you in the capable hands of Arcade Fires 30 second samples from 'Month Of May' and 'The Suburbs'. Maybe the most exciting sounding 60 seconds of my blogging life.

MP3: Piece Of String - Clock Opera

My first Hypewriter post subject has already come to fruition. Clock Opera's amazing single 'Piece Of String' is now available to download. The song highlights all the original and brilliant sides to the band. Guy Connelly's wavering vocals, with the deeper synth rhythms and razor chopped guitar leave a melody so complex and unnerving but utterly perfect. The whole song is driven by a clicked drum complementing the tune rather than dominating it leaving a perfect base for the pained lyrics to lay over. Read more, Listen and Download after the beep.

MP3: Wait Up (Boots Of Danger) - Tokyo Police Club

A return to "Your English Is Good" form for Tokyo Police Club. 'Wait Up (Boots Of Danger)' is a drum driven feast of indie-dance, which coupled with 'Breakneck Speed' leaves anticipation for the new album at an all time high. If that wasn't enough Passion Pit have remixed the song. Grab both MP3's after the beep and download 'Breakneck Speed' Here.

Hypewriter: Lissie

2010 has so far laid the Goulding-Diamandis foundations of a craze sweeping the musical world, the craze of the off the wall female singer songwriter. As well as Marina & The Diamonds have done to build on that foundation, the genre-craze is yet to find its Je ne sais quoi. In my opinion Lissie is just that. More on Lissie, including Videos and MP3's after the beep.

Stream: Band Of Horses 'Infinite Arms'

After releasing four tracks to stream, the full album is finally here. Band Of Horses really like to tease us fans. The album sounds really great, definitely a significant progression from the band. You can listen to the album at the bands website here.

Music from 90210: Episode 20 Series 2

This weeks episode features tracks from Beck, Hugo, The xx and My Favourite Highway. Read more and listen after the beep.
