Review: "Flamingo" - Brandon Flowers

A solo debut album is probably the most difficult challenge in any musicians career, especially after being part of such worldwide success that was The Killers. But Brandon Flowers seems to have coped pretty well under the circumstances. 'Flamingo' is in amongst a number of solo projects from big name artists such as Julian Casablancas and Kele and much like those albums it holds true to a number of traits of the singers former band. The synths of 'Hot Fuss', the country stylings of 'Sams Town' and the bizarre pop perfection of 'Day & Age' are all in there somewhere. However I would have to say (after much consideration) this is not simply another Killers album and probably not what you were expecting. "Swallow It" - Brandon Flowers

A new approach for a new song I guess. Definitely not a killers song, in fact but for the voice many wouldn't have placed this on Brandon Flowers new album 'Flamingo' due out on the 6th of Sept. The song doesn't have that heavy bass line or a synth riff which made Hot Fuss so instantly recognizable, but what it lacks in The Killers traits it makes up for in its subtlety and melody. A pretty good song full of charm and innocence despite its innuendo laden title. Listen to "Swallow It" after the beep.

It's always interesting to see how a member of a band does when releasing solo material. So often it doesn't compare to the music made by the artists former band, however in this case it does. It also sounds suspiciously like a Killers song. Read more and listen to 'Crossfire' after the beep.
