Seventeen - Marina & The Diamonds (Live at The Roost)

I love it when I get to post anything by the incredible Marina, especially when i can tell you that you can download a LIVE track for FREE. 'Seventeen' didn't make the cut for The Family Jewels in the UK but did however replace the equally impressive 'Rootless' on the US release. It was one of Marina's earlier songs which some of the die hard fans may have heard in late '08, I can tell you that this slightly updated live version is just as special as those first few listens to Marina all those years ago. Download and Listen to 'Seveteen' after the beep.

Alejandro's Not A Robot - Marina And The Diamonds x Lady Gaga

This is probably the best mash-up I have heard this year, the two songs were clearly written for each other and the genius that is TikToxic aka Asad Naseem (youtube channel here) spotted this. Watch and Listen to 'Alejandro's Not A Robot' after the beep.

Summer Playlist 2010

So I finally finished compiling my Summer Playlist and here it is. The playlist is made up of 19 tracks, all free to download and all oozing with summery-ness. It's got tracks from Tokyo Police Club, Blur, The New Pornographers, Chiddy Bang, Lissie, an exclusive track from Polarsets and mooooorrrrrreeeeeeeee. Download the playlist after the beep.

Video: Oh No! - Marina And The Diamonds

There is no doubt that Marina has made a name for herself this past year, her album is up there with the best of this year and her video's show how creative she is in all aspects of her work. Read more and watch the video for 'Oh No!' after the beep.

Biffy Clyro ft. Marina And The Diamonds @ NME Awards 2010

New Album Artwork: Foals, Marina And The Diamonds

Not a bad effort from Foals, I like its modesty. Despite that, there doesn't seem to be much of a coherent theme between this and the video for 'Spanish Sahara'.
Another stunning cover for the re-released 'I Am Not A Robot' from Marina And The Diamonds. Slightly strange angle but I guess that fits with the message of the song.

Hollywood (Radioproof Remix) - Marina And The Diamonds

That's right, another remix of 'Hollywood'. This one is being given away on Marina's website if you join the mailing list, but anyone with any sense would have already done that......right? Anyway for those of us that already have here it is. Enjoy.

I have to apologise for the fact there is only two photos worth showing, my camera battery was being tempremental.

Live: Marina And The Diamonds @ The Other Rooms, Newcastle 18.02.10

92/100      4 days before her album 'The Family Jewels' release, Marina And The Diamonds played The Other Rooms in Newcastle. The small room was packed with 'Diamonds' desperate to make it to the front and catch a glimpse of the eccentric frontwoman. Marina was supported by the atmospheric synth pop band 'Clock Opera' who, unlike most support bands really got the crowd going and left me wanting to go see what one of their own gigs would offer. Despite Clock Opera's impressive performance and the crowds obvious admiration for them, nothing could overshadow the act which we had all come to see.
The cheers rippled through the crowd as a large security man escorted a cloaked figure through the left of the crowd, dressed in a knitted gown complete with pig/sheep hood and a Planet Hollywood dress Marina Strode onto stage and kicked off with the punchy 'Girls'. The crowd were all up for the gig from the start which was mainly due to Marina's enthusiasm on stage. She managed to keep pitch perfect whilst jumping from one side of the stage to the other determined to please all sounds of the room.  She rattled through 'Seventeen' and Outsider' before taking time to thank her 'Diamonds' for their support before showing she really meant it by performing the impeccable 'I Am Not A Robot'. More of her excellent album tracks followed with 'Oh No', 'Numb','Obsessions' and 'Rootless' all making the £9.50 seem more and more worth it. She Finished her show with three songs which i think will become many fans favourites, first was the new single 'Hollywood' to which she held up a fans banner reading 'Hollywood infected our brains' (very jealous i didn't think of that). the second track is one of my favourites on the album 'Shampain', it was instantly popular with the crowd who despite the album only being streamed that morning had clearly taken time learn all the words. She finished the show with the brilliant 'Mowgli's Road' which I'm sure left all the diamonds go home with a sense of satisfaction and a serious carving to go and listen to those family jewels once again.

Newcastle Music Scene: February

After spending a long time browsing various music websites for some sort of organized gig listings for Newcastle i decided it that it might save me and the rest of you a lot of our precious time if I just wrote a blog post dedicated to the music scene in Newcastle for the coming month so here it is.

Marina And The Diamonds - Hollywood (Acoustic)

Hollywood - Marina & The Diamonds (Music Video)

As it says on Marina's Blog, this is the first video her father likes. She says 'LIFE GOAL ACHIEVED'. I say 'excuse me Mr Diamond, what was wrong with "Obsessions".....exactly'.
I Literally cannot wait for her album. Enjoy.

Obsessions - Marina and the Diamonds

Awesome new band, in my opinion they are a bit like Florence and the machine except good. The bands website is well worth a look, especially the satirical discussion of shakira's new video for comeback single 'She Wolf', which is after the beep.
