Newcastle Music Scene: February

After spending a long time browsing various music websites for some sort of organized gig listings for Newcastle i decided it that it might save me and the rest of you a lot of our precious time if I just wrote a blog post dedicated to the music scene in Newcastle for the coming month so here it is.
Some great gigs this month, many of which have been tempting me to part with my (not so) hard earned cash. The one which won out in the end was Marina and the Diamonds at 'The Other Rooms', as the ticket was only nine quid and I knew the venue was small it was the obvious choice really.

Some of the other tasty looking gigs include Vampire Weekends visit to the O2, and the 'NME Tour' also at the O2. In terms of local bands the pick of the bunch has to be 'Viva City' playing at the Cluny with support from the soulful folk rockers 'The Martini Sessions'.

Finally, my local band of the month is 'Uncle Monty' whose upbeat downbeat brand of pop draws parallels of 'The Shins' and 'The LA's'. They have managed to create melodic indie music while still maintaining a certain level of angst within the lyrics, which is all to often sacrificed for a more mainstream sound. Below are a few examples of the top quality music February in Newcastle has to offer.

Marina and the Diamonds - Obsessions
Marina and the Diamonds - Hollywood (Fenech-Soler Remix)
Uncle Monty - Round & Round
Vampire Weekend - White Sky
