In My Head - Jason Derulo

When he's not butchering some of my favourite songs of all time he makes some pretty good mainstream pop. Will be in all clubs non-stop at the begining of 2010 by which time i may be sick of it, but for now it remains on the catchy side of overplayed.

Blueberry - Late Of The Pier (Music Video)

Congrats Rage for getting to number one but.....

No...... you lost Simon.

Not sure whether this was a good thing or not. It did put the poor covers that x factor winners release in their place, but on so many levels it has annoyed me. Here is a few reasons why;
  • There are a thousand songs i would rather see at number one (not including 'the climb').
  • Its not a Christmas song.
  • Most people only bought it because everyone else was, so the songs whole message is now somewhat ironic.
  • A lot of middle aged people now own a RATM record.
  • I get the feeling that if Joe McElderry gave the money to charity and did a free concert, he probably would have got to number one.
  • Everyone got there a year late! Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley could have been the greatest Christmas number one ever.
  • 'Killing In The Name' isn't that good.
Anyway rant over now. I'm still impressed RATM managed to pull it off and i do like the song, i think a just have an objection to annoying Facebook groups.

Audience Of One - Cold War Kids

Loving the new CWK song, EP, Album Cover, general sound. I would even go as far as saying this song reaches the dizzy heights of 'Hang Me Out To Dry'. It has all the Ingredients of Cold War Kids; the plonky piano, the preached lyrics and bluesy riffs. I Cannot wait until this beauty of an EP gets released. Fingers crossed for some UK tour dates people. Enjoy.

Audience Of One - Cold War Kids

Twin Peaks - Surfer Blood

The album cover scares me a little bit but you can't argue with the tracks this seemingly surfer despising band make. 'Twin Peaks' is another strong track off their debut album 'Astro Coast' and even if the album art is some sort of Jaws tribute i will definitely own this when it is released. Look out for the meow at the start. Enjoy.

Happy Birthday Guadalupe - The Killers

Continuing The Killers tradition of releasing a Christmas song every year is the new track 'Happy Birthday Guadalupe'. In my opinion it is just a regular song with "Christmas time" slotted sneakily into the lyrics but if you are in a festive mood feel free to pretend it is a festive greeting from the indie legends. The song features Wild Light (who opened for The Killers on their recent tour) and Mariachi El Bronx, however The Killers are still the star the star of the show. The song has so many great aspects to it from the backing Mariachi trumpets and intricate guitar riffs to the brilliantly penned lyrics, it is easily the best Christmas song by The Killers even if it is their least Christmas-y. Enjoy.

Transatlanticism's Christmas Playlist

It is finally here, with more "ho ho ho's" than an episode of Hollyoaks its the *Drum Roll* Transatlanticism Christmas Mix. That's right boys and girls grab you candy canes and stockings and lets all revel in Christmas spirit. As a festive treat i will give you a run down of the tracks i have chosen and why i chose them (if i can remember).

1-I Wish It Could Be Christmas Today - Julian Casablancas
Finally a good old cheesy Christmas song from and indie artist well done jules.

2-Let It Snow (interlude) - Dean Martin
Can't have a Christmas mix without a little wishful thinking.

3-Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) - Death Cab For Cutie
Of course there was going to be a Death Cab Song on here somewhere.

4-I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday - Wizzard
Probably the ultimate Christmas song, probably the weirdest Santa costume ever.

5-Blue Christmas - Bright Eyes
Another one of those bands i couldn't resist, one for you lonely souls.

6-Frosty The Snowman - The Beach Boys
Everything The Beach Boys touch turns to gold, even snowmen.

7-Santa Claus Is Coming To Town - Bruce Springstein
I can't believe i didn't realise The Boss had done a Christmas song, this is literally amazing.

8-My Two Front Teeth (Interlude) - Nat King Cole
I would like more than my two front teeth for Christmas, oh well each to their own.

9-Maybe This Christmas - Ron Sexsmith
Classic O.C Christmas moment had to be noted.

10-Merry Christmas Everyone - Shakin' Stevens
He moves like a geriatric (ironically). He sings classic Christmas song, He makes it on to the playlist.

11-Be Good For Goodness Sake (Interlude) - Jackson 5
"He sees you when your sleeping"......I'm scared

12-A Fairytale Of New York - Kirsty MacColl, The Pogues
Probably the most abusive song on the mix. RIP Kirsty MacColl

13-Stay Another Day - East 17
Oh Dear East 17, Oh Very Dear. Good song though.

I Have Posted the Zip file containing the individual tracks, but unfortunately soundcloud is being a douche so no pretty player yet. Enjoy (you better it has taken me friggin' ages).

Cousins - Vampire Weekend (Music Video)

This song speaks for itself (it says "I'm friggin amazing") so i am just going to discuss the video. A lot of bands have done videos a bit like this one (Justice with Dance) but i still think this one is the best mainly because it is less produced. It look almost like the band have just picked a random street, some random props, and some random riffs and through musical and cinematic genius have made an outstanding music video. Enjoy.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs: Live at O2 Academy, Newcastle 3/12/09

This is my first review and it is a shambles. I don’t even know who I have reviewed.

The support act (I don’t know their name…the drum kit said “TTT” and they’re from Montreal and that’s all I could understand.) played to the small, early crowd a brand of rock somewhere between electro and punk, like a female-fronted Test Icicles. The front-woman did her best to whip the crowd up a bit, dancing her way through the audience and climbing on the bar, but found little response. The keyboard-synth maestro ingeniously played his instruments with a combination of palm and entire arm rather than boring, conventional fingers. Sadly, this often drowned out the vocals. Two catchy dance floor songs were actually half decent, but not good enough to dedicate time to finding out who they were.

The unknown female singer graced the stage in jeans and a hoody. She paled in comparison to the fabulous, rock and roll beauty that is Karen O. Bursting onto the stage in a white outfit somewhere between a poncho and a kimono like a futuristic, fluorescent Aztec; the crowd went mental. Firing straight into 'Heads Will Roll', Karen O worked the stage and the crowd, start to finish. This being the first time I had seen the Yeah Yeah Yeahs live I was not disappointed by Karen’s fantastic charismatic stage presence that simultaneously created the aura of intrigue and warmth that said she was really happy to be here for us. Karen O, Nicolas Zinner and Brian Chase took us on a whirlwind tour of "It’s Blitz!" and some of the more popular numbers from the old albums;'Shame and Fortune', 'Dull Life', 'Cheating Hearts', 'Soft Shock', 'Turn Into', all complete with foot operated glitter canons and onstage theatrics.'Gold Lion' was a high point in the night, bringing the most energy from the crowd,'Skeletons' was a welcome slow-down for us all to get our breath back, and 'Zero' saw Karen aptly accessorize with a customised leather jacket. Electric guitar was replaced by an acoustic for an incredible, heart-felt rendition of their most famous song,'Maps', prompting a good old fashioned lighters-out and crowd sing-a-long. This is modern rock at its rawest; unpretentious and believable.

Scissor - Liars

I hadn't heard of this band until today and i can't quite understand why. After about of one and a half minutes of this track i thought i had them sussed as a melodic bluesy band a bit like a 'TV on the radio' sound but then the "chorus" happened. Its heavy drums and guitar completely surprised me but after some consideration i decided that it was a nice surprise. In the chorus they no longer sound like Blues more the evil twin of the klaxons or the rhythmical twin of the horrors.A tip for the rest of you, don't turn up to loud during the verse otherwise the chorus may blow your speakers. Enjoy.

The Cave - Mumford & Sons

I can't quite believe i haven't posted a Mumford & Sons track yet seeing as i haven't stopped listening to their album since it came out. It is almost impossible to pick a track off the album because their are so many great tracks, to give you an idea of how good it is my wmp play counts for the album are as follows 25,34,28,14,29,9,25,13,8,14,12,7. After much deliberation i have decided to post 'The Cave' as it was the first song i heard by them, and was what made me want to listen to more and more and more Mumford & Sons. I expect you will do the same. Enjoy.

Because (feat. Radiohead) - Chiddy Bang

Apparently this whole band is still in college over the pond in Philadelphia but if they are making music of this quality and maturity they should be teaching everyone else. After the amazing mix of MGMT's "kids" they released the "West Philly Mixtape" which contains the track "Because" the rapping is at least as good as that on "Kids" and the mix work on the track is incredible. It almost feels as if Radiohead wrote "Reckoner" for this mix.....well nearly. This band are going to be huge when their album drops next year. Enjoy.

Train Song - Ben Gibbard, Feist

Ive just discovered this little gem of a collaboration between the legendary Ben Gibbard and Feist. I found it on an obscure charity compilation album called 'Dark Was The Night', you know you have to much time on your hands when you trawl through compilation albums to find little rarities. Enjoy.

New Blur film, "No Distance Left To Run"

As if their Glastonbury set didn't already leave me in a dazed state, blur have decided to release a film about their re-union entitled 'No Distance Left To Run. I have posted the trailer above. Enjoy.

Hollywood - Marina & The Diamonds (Music Video)

As it says on Marina's Blog, this is the first video her father likes. She says 'LIFE GOAL ACHIEVED'. I say 'excuse me Mr Diamond, what was wrong with "Obsessions".....exactly'.
I Literally cannot wait for her album. Enjoy.

This Is War - 30 Seconds To Mars

I have just got my greasy paws on the new 30 seconds to mars album and from what i have heard so far i am very impressed. 'This Is War' is much more of a coherent album than their first two releases, this is due partly to the variety of tracks on the album which in my opinion was absent on the first two albums. The collaboration with Kanye West on 'Hurricane' (i can only assume Mr West does the synth track in the background as there is no rapping involved) is genius and shows a different direction for the band away from 10 epic-emo tracks to a well produced and structured album. Despite the varied album I'm going to have to post one of the 'old-school' sounding tracks the album title sharing 'This Is War' due to its sheer epic nature but just to prove i wasn't fibbin' I've posted 'Hurricanes' too. Enjoy.

Location - Freelance Whales

Another track from the brilliant Freelance Whales which i have been meaning to post for quite a while now, you will be glad i finally got round to it. Every time i here a new track off this album it seems to be better than the previous one, and i loved the first track i heard so as you can gather 'Location' is a pretty good track (and by pretty good i mean one of the best of this year). The only bad thing about this band is that they are only touring in the U.S at the moment so for us Brits the prospect of them live has to remain a fantasy, at least we have their incredible debut album to keep us satisfied.
