Newcastle Music Scene: May
It's a massive month for music in Newcastle which will culminate in the highly anticipated Evolution Festival at the end of the month. I will be writing a special Evolution preview later in the month as it will have so much musical talent on show it deserves and requires its own Newcastle Music Scene post. For now sink your teeth into the mammoth month of may (alliteration ftw).
It's not just evolution that makes this month special, The Cluny and 02 Academy have great line-ups incudin the likes of Temper Trap, Live Like Lions, Polarsets, Viva City and many more. The Cluny kicks off the month on the 2nd with a dilemma between IIMITAK w/ Polarsets who play Cluny 1 and Viva City who play Cluny 2. Polarsets and Viva city have established themselves as two of the most promising bands in the North East. Viva City have recently played at SXSW and Polarsets have just released their impressive single 'Leave Argentina' which you can listen to here.
My Local Band of the month are Ever Since The Lake Caught Fire. They have been building up a steady fan base and this month will release their single 'The Sea' with a launch gig at The Cluny which is a bargain at 4 pounds with the single thrown in. You would be mad to miss it, either that or you would be going home to revise like the unfortunately studious person I am.
ESLCF are probably the definition of an alternative band, they combine catchy pop tunes with some angst ridden lyrics and throw in a few heavy chorus guitar riffs for good measure.
Another great up and coming band which will be playing in newcastle is Live Like Lions, ever since seeing them at The End last year i have been hooked on their catchy electro pop. The support Little Comets at the 02 on the 15th but in my opinion the Devon-London band should and could be headlining shows like this very soon. Keep them on your radar you won't regret it.
My gig of the month is Temper Trap also at the 02 on the 10th. Temper Trap's popularity has grown and grown since their summer hit 'Sweet Disposition' (it was basically the theme tune to any of the summer festivals). The band produce great pop rock with a progressive and romantic undertone, perfect for summer gigs (yes thats right i am officially declaring it is summer.......cue rain).
I have posted some of ESLCF's tracks below, Enjoy.
