Speech Debelle was awarded the mercury music prize for her album 'Speech Therapy' tonight. Speech Debelle has been credited with bringing jazz back into Rap and was an unsurprising choice for the award. In my opinion there were more deserved winners such as friendly fires whose album is my favourite album from the past couple of years, or the veterans of the award Bat for Lashes who were nominated for last years award. Ironically Speech Debelles speech became pretty cliche after she thanked her mum and grandma.
