All the way from Philly, Reading Rainbow are riding the waves of that oh so successful Lo-Fi resurgence. A new approach for a new song I guess. Definitely not a killers song, in fact but for the voice many wouldn't have placed this on Brandon Flowers new album 'Flamingo' due out on the 6th of Sept. The song doesn't have that heavy bass line or a synth riff which made Hot Fuss so instantly recognizable, but what it lacks in The Killers traits it makes up for in its subtlety and melody. In case you were wondering where you knew this guys voice from, he is the vocalist and half of the whole that is Gnarls Barkley. Now he has gone solo (again) and to great effect. His amazing cover of Band Of horses "No Ones Gonna Love You" is probably already a contender for song of the year and his light hearted "Fuck You" has some brilliantly catchy lyrics. Yadi emerges from the parallels with Florence or Marina with a distinct sound which holds its own on both a catchy chorus and a booming voice. Even when he is in prison Lil' Wayne makes some great music. Okay, okay strictly its a remix album (and a surprising one at that) by My Sick Uncle, although he states “This is not a mashup album, this is an album about Wayne.” I'd say it is more of an album about how most rappers need indie bands to write their backing tracks....Just a thought. This is Klaxons at their best, it reaches the dizzy heights of Gravity's Rainbow and Golden Skans, Maybe even surpassing them. As for the video it basically involves some pretty nice shots of epic desert-scape interspersed with the band playing as if all that sand was a crowd and the missing amplifiers were there. Okay so as I was away this weekend I missed NPR dropping the new track from The Walkmen, who just so happen to be one of my favourite bands of the past decade. So as you can imagine i was gutted i didn't get there first, but better late then never.

A couple of days ago I posted the short preview of this video, and if you were impressed by that wait until you see the whole thing. Its a really artistically mature video for a small band with I'm guessing few resources. The video compliments the song well both in its tempo and general feel, It really is a feast for the eyes. Another child of the lo-fi generation emerging in the U.S is a band called Best Coast. They are a duo from California who judging by the album art enjoy cats and Beach Boy-esque retro scenes. In my opinion Jools Holland's show 'Later Live' never showcases a bands live talent to its full extent, the instrumental part is never loud enough. Having said that there are a few bands which still manage to get that-Top of the Pops style, slightly embarrassed to dance-crowd moving. Mumford &amp; Sons are one of those bands. Fast paced political bass, easy on the political. M.I.A has always frustrated me with her albums, both had potential but lacked any coherence. 'Kala' for example had the easy to listen chart success 'Paper Planes' but it didn't fit with the album, M.I.A should either go for the poppy/rap chart music or stick to the off the wall stuff because she is good at both but they don't mix.

I kind of get the feeling this is what MGMT should have done more of on their more instrumental album. Tame Impala make the instrumental aspects more frantic, creating a 7 minute epic which leaves me both confused and impressed. Formidable Joy indeed. The thrashed out guitar riffs leave you wishing you were at one of their gigs so you can jump up and down whilst still maintaining dignity, it is probably down to that urge that the band have such a great live reputation. Not sure what to make of this......at all. Is it a music video, is it a drug induced coma, is it really a load of panda's abusing the members of LCD Soundsystem, probably all of the above. 'Leave Argentina' is a prime example of the upcoming genre of the moment. They have the samba rhythms of a Friendly Fires track and catchy riffs which bands like Two Door Cinema Club and Bombay Bicycle Club would be proud of. Plus they are one step ahead of them lot by not putting Club somewhere in their name.

Another reason for me to feel guilty about having not seen 'Were The Wild Things Are'. It really does have a perfect soundtrack, Karen O's voice reproduces the delicacy seen on YYY's 'Maps' track after track, I can't even begin to imagine how mind blowing it is when combined with the film.

It's Definitely a 'Someone Great' rather than a 'North American Scum'. It's nice to see (and hear) that James Murphy has included some of the angst that gave his previous albums that edge over his electro indie rivals. 'I Can Change' (or 'Change' as it has been called in parts of the blogosphere)  brings Murphy's lyrics to the foreground to showcase their awesome power to affect.
